I think I have a good shot as a greeter for
Wal*Mart to buy me some extra Cryt Car time.

Last Sunday dueing it's brief life, I turned the TR
around in the garage .

I noticed a loud thunk when I let the clutch out in
reverse. same loud thunk in first.

The rear end suspension has been rebuilt completely by me.
No broken anything back there. All new TA bushings, mounts,
oil seals, shocks, coil springs, brakes, etc. The diffy was
examined interior and declared fit as a fiddle.

I am about to order from TRF the new clutch assemble and
new interior carpet. They charge me a forture to ship to
PR, (foreign counrty) so I combine my needs into large orders.

Any ideas what parts I should order to repair the thunk??

thanks as always,

d

Dale,
How loud is loud and do you have overdrive. I mean, was it like a really hard bang or just a big thunk?

Dale, a couple of thoughts.

Are the rear springs fully seated and are the rubber insulators in the proper position, insulating the spring from metal to metal contact with the frame?

I'm assuming that you replaced and torqued all of the differential bushings when you rebuilt the rear end.

Are all of the drive shaft bolts torqued properly?

Are the two mounts at the rear of the transmission tight and in good condition?

Can you duplicate the noise by pushing up and down on the rear bumper to "jounce" the springs and shocks into position? If not, that may eliminate that area.

First and reverse cause the most torque twist to the drive train. Are the engine mounts tight and in good condition? Could be exhaust header banging against frame if engine mount is weak or loose.

You will have to check all of the mounts with a pry bar to insure that there are no cracks or any loose nuts on the studs.

Why do they charge and arm and a leg to ship to PR? Two of the companies that I represent send shipments daily via UPS and none has mentioned exorbitant fees. Overnights do not arrive until about 7:00PM, but nothing other than that.

I'll check on that tomorrow when I get to the office.

Just a dull thunk. No OD on my car.

Yes, coil springs properly seated.
No crunching sound when I push down on the rean end.
Drive shaft bolts? I'll check
Rear trans mounts? I'll check

The thunk seemed behind me when I shifed. Remember
this was a total of two (2) shifts!! Not much data.

Often we have to pay an additional 25% of an item's
cost for shipping to PR? or more.
National Geographic in Wash DC charged us $22
to send a DVD on Eygpt. I argued we are a state
but National Geo told me were a foreigh country as
far as they are concerned. The DVD arrived stamped
$2.40 United States Postal Service.

I admire your determination. My 6 would be melted down by now and rebourne as drink coasters.........
Can't help you on the 'thunk', maybe a dead cat wrapped around the propeller shaft???

I thought PR kept voting down statehood?

On your clunk... Double check your shock mount bolts and or how are your U-Joints? I didn't see them mentioned on your list.

Also, TR diffs can be clunky. Even when in great working shape.
