Were you drugged? This says it all

The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a Methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question.

'Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?'

I replied, 'I had a drug problem when I was young, I was drug to church on Sunday morning.

I was drug to church for weddings and funerals.

I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults.

I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the priest, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.

I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity.

I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flowerbeds and cocklebur's out of dad's fields.

I was drug to the homes of family, friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.

Those drugs are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, or think.

They are stronger than cocaine, crack, meth or heroin; and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem, The world would be a better place. God bless the parents who drugged us.

I concur with you Willie, my parents were about the best druggists in town.

You know, I wouldn't trade it for the world /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/winner1.gif

MeeToo, Dave.

More like sage words than humor in that, Will!

It'll be 'sniped' and sent to many of my friends. Thanks!

I suppose some parents were druggists...

others were pushers.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Terri,

I guess that explains why adults who weren't
spanked as children are so normal nowadays.

but it explains nothing for those of us who were spanked as children....

Ha:
Did you dare to tell you Dad you got a lickin` by the teacher at school for doing something stupid? I surely didn`t, I`d have gotten another except much worse from him. AND ........ I even hoped and prayed that he never found out I didn`t tell him about gettin` that lickin`
I was on DRUGS too .... mostly by the ear! Sometimes with a boot in my rear!

"...spanked OR HIT A LOT..."

Real scientific, huh?

As a kid I think I understood the difference between discipline...whether at home or school...and abuse. I'd ten to one rather get a spanking (and get it over with) than have to sit on the couch...across from my brother in the chair...all afternoon...silently. Did both...no weird fettishes I know of...no strained relationship with my brother...about as normal as normal goes.

I'm afraid this sounds like one of those "research projects" that eventually supports a preconceived notion, epitomizes all the "prejudicing the issue" warnings you received in Logic and/or Speech class, and resulted in either a big bill to tax payers...or a thesis.

Ben,

Liked them ever since I heard "Redneck Girl"
('77,or '78),although this one makes a lot more sense.

If its the perception that's the issue then the subjective assessment is valid; and subsequent behavior would be influenced by those perceptions rather than some more objective and supposedly "scientific" measure.

So you didn't perceive your own punishment as excessive- you weren't "hit a lot" and think you turned out normal- does this prove their point?

As far as pre-concieved notions go it is fairly widely believed that abused children often become child-abusers themselves so the motive for this research is well established: Violence begets violence....

Abuse is when you get hit or verbaly abused regularly for no apearent reason, I wouldn`t call what I got {An occcasional belt across the backside} abuse! It was a RUDE AWAKENING reminder that I had responsibilities to both my parents and society. When I failed those responsibilities miserably, is when I got Rudely Awakened! But then I guess some would call that abuse. I didn`t/don`t perceive it as such.

I agree about the occassional, and the moderate use. If children get hit all the time for anything or everything the punishment then losses its intended "impact", I think it stops being effective. I had an aunt that punished her children that way and they seemed the worst behaved children of any I knew. Its not a scientific or comprehensive study, but....

It is possible for punishment to go beyond what is justified, and I have seen people lose their tempers with their children and that's when things can get out of hand and go too far.
