You think I'm happy about it.
My son, if he doesn't make in into the Naval Academy wants to go to Columbia or MIT.

That will make that 200K look cheap

No idea about the Navy or MIT, but fortunately Columbia was not $200K when I was there and I left with every loan known to studentkind.
From the latest statistics at least the school of engineering has become much, much more selective in the last decade. Unlikely that they would let me in today If Columbia and MIT are the backup he must be a very impressive kid.

Interestingly, my youngest went to a southern university, Tulane. Bright, hard working kid that got through with many honors (for free, yet) and went on to med school at LSU. For the heck of it he applied to several Ivy med schools. Never even got a response. Not even a peep. Now, he finished in the top 10th of 10th percent at Tulane. (I guess I am bragging on him, sorry) MCAT through the roof. Etc.

The Ivy's don't look kindly on Southern kids, unless you are an exceptional minority. Pretty much take from their own gene pool.

My son is finishing his residency at Stanford in July.

Not real fond of the responses from the Northern Elites.
