Had to go get groceries yesterday and went to Lawton, our usual thirty minute drive wound up taking the better part of ninety minutes, of course some of that was due to my stopping and taking pictures. My first choice of road, US277 was flooded so we got on I44 until that was also flooded, then I had to divert course and drive through the Wichita Mts. about twenty miles west then down to the town of Cache and back into Lawton. Four hours later we had groceries and were home.

This is a section of road near US277, needless to say I turned around.

This is the view from 44 on the way to Lawton about six miles from where this was taken the water overtook the highway.

This was taken on our way through a small town called Medicine Park near the Wichita Mts.

I know what you mean Walter, our large pond, which is also spring fed has been overflowing continuously for a week now. Problem there is, it runs down through one of my neighbors fields. Thank goodness he doesn't mind! PJ

Ouch. I guess all you can do is accept and hope for the best.

The really crazy part is that we were in stage three water restrictions and about to enter stage four due to the drought at the beginning of the month. Now we have had over a foot of rain with no sign of it stopping anytime soon.

And the weather channel is having current coverage on "historic flooding" in Austin. Bad in Dallas. Not going to get better soon.

We had rain here last night and they predicted 2.5 inches per hour. It rained so hard you could only see a couple hundred feet through it. The waterways here are all overflowing.

Man, I'm feeling for you guys right now. We finally got a little break in OKC yesterday. Only about 1/2 inch rain. My son lives in Norman though and it's flooded about like Walt's photos. Forecast is for more severe weather later today too so stay safe.

Crazy. Southwest is drying out and you guys are drowning. Something should be somehow done about that - like the canal China was (is?) building between the Yangtze and the Yellow Rivers to equalize the flow. Just checked it out. It's the South-North Water Transfer project. A dream of Chairman Mao back in the 1950s, now a reality. Cost? $79 billion so far. There will be 3 canals apparently. I just can't see that happening here where you need the State's permission to cut down a tree.

I'm tempting Fate by saying this, but here in Connecticut we've had less than an inch of rain in the last two months. Can you say "dry"?

Regardless, all you folks in the wet areas, remember to respect Nature - and don't try driving through running water.
