Went to Autozone.....

to get a part for my Car B Que

made from a 1955 Studebaker.

When I mentioned it was a Studebaker,

The kid asked me "Whats a Studebaker, are they
made in Europe or Canada"

I am starting to wonder if there is hope
for this Ipod generation.

The Car B Que in question:

Like the time I went to renew my plates. The clerk asked what kind of car, when I said MG, she asked me to spell it. When she asked which model, I told her MGB. Again she asked me to spell it.

Well, maybe if more were powered by gasoline and on the road not charcoal sitting in the park...

Dave, somthing complete with nice paint should have a motor in it. Just MHO of course.

I think they can take your chips away for that. :jester:

(NA joke)

It's everywhere....I took my MGB to a body shop after a tree fell on it.

The person there asked what kind of car? MG.
GM? No, MG.
Made by GM? No, MG.
What's the VIN number? Said what it was. Are you sure? Yes.
That number isn't long enough, the computer won't accept it. I can't help you.

Nice Car-b-que. I'm gonna be helping my buddy get his 53 Studie back on the road this summer. Rat- roddish type. just make it pass inspection and drive it like you stole it!
Bill, I think most of Dave's "customs" are far from ever being driven again before he starts on em. I'm just glad to see them being used for something.

I went to go find a Haynes manual for my Jag. Checked three Autozones, and none of them had one for anything out of the ordinary.

And speaking on behalf of people under 21, the Studebaker went out of production around 1961(?). Honestly, I've never seen one with my own eyes. That would be like someone born in 1971 being asked to identify Dodge brothers sedans or a R.E. Olds.

Hey, I was born in '74, and I see Studebakers all the time. In fact, there's one in my driveway.

Even the Muppets are getting old. I remember the Studebaker from "The Mask" with Jim Carrey, that's it.

I once had to explain the Taco Bell dog to a friend of mine who is turning 18 in April.

Most kids who are into cars have no grasp of anything older than say 1985. Car culture is shifting towards trucks, SUVs, and Japanese/Korean Cars. None of my friends could not spot out a E-Type, a TVR, anything from BL, a BMW 2002, even some American muscle cars that were not as famous, like the Cougar. My best friend knows the Buick Grand National, and thinks that's a muscle car.

I am the only "kid" I know that came walk around a British car show and have any chance of naming everything... I got close, and I was very upset when I didn't see a Jensen Interceptor...

Gawd that makes me feel old, tk.

Waaay back in the mid-eighties we had a client with a convertible Interceptor. Top hydraulics were Chrysler and the electrics controlling that lot were Lucas. More relays in the boot of that thing than Carter has pills.

What a Doozie.

:jester: :smirk:

In the early fifties when we were still living in Bayside, Queens, New York, my father came home with one of these in black...Studebaker definitely had some interesting and sometimes great designs.

I was born in 53 and my aunt had a Studie that looked like a shabbier edition of the above post. We used to ride to the local swimming pool in it.

The first car I can remember my Dad having was a 1938 Olds in 1947 or 1948. He sold that in 1949 and bought a 1940 Packard 120 from my Uncle Ed. Now that was a car!

A short ride in one will change your mind. I can assure you it is and until recent years was considered to be the last one. Too bad it didn't come w/ a 4 speed.

A GN one bad mutharoux.

Our Korean friends are comming out w/ some good stuff now too.

I love the Grand National/GNX, but what is the defintion of muscle car? I've figure it was a naturally aspirated V8 with heavy torque.

I also think the Grand National was the last cool Buick ever, was light years ahead of any other American car, and is something they need today. Their putting a turbo in the new Regal, but it's just a Buick with a turbo.

I was going to buy a Grand National instead of a Jag, but the prices are around $10,000. Never mind a real GNX.
