I figured out how that fan got into stuff!! I decided to go out and do a bit more investigation. I just couldn't imagine how the fan would break and come apart on its own. I broke a motor mount! I have had issues with the first set and these mounts were just replaced in Jan. Has anyone else had this problem? I got them from one of the two big sources. Anyone have a source for a quality set?

Oh, man. I got new mounts as well. Hey I think I will see if I can rig up a safety cable to catch if a mount breaks. I have seen this done before.

Barry - that stinks. Here you spend the $,put in the new ones, just to have them break?
hmmm..I have a new set ready to go in..Kim - your idea sounds like a good way to mitigate potential issues. Are you thinking a cable around the mount with cable clamps or..?

Shoot, I'm thinking about just putting in solid mounts and being done with it. WOnder if they ar eout there or if I need to make some?

I also have had issues with motor mounts from the big two! One came with a stud conveniently provided with no threads on it(!!!) and the other, the rubber delaminated from the metal part in no time! Are they getting their parts from China and India??

You know it! Have you found a good set Mike? I got to get her back on the road this week and need to put in that order for new mounts!

I have some cable left over from some work I did on my sailboat. I was going to use the cable and make loops at the ends with nicopress fittings. Then if there is enough room, mount them to the motor mount bolts on the motor and frame. Maybe next week.

I wound up buying a set off ebay!!! Closed my eyes, held my nose and took a plunge!! They seem to be OK!!

Yeah, I have heard about the vibrations and everything. Dad has put solid mounts in his hotrods and oddly has never had a real problem with vibrations. Dunno?

Like I said about the fan, if it was bought recently then make them send you a new ones (even if you just throw them in the trash) AND insist that they pay shipping since you are already inconvenienced by having to replace them and fix your radiator.

Will do Trevor. I got it last summer. Does that date sound like it would be within the recall?

I do not know about the fan recall, but most of their parts have a 1 yr warranty.

and remind them that there is no money to be made on selling poor quality parts. The British car customer base is only so large and they need to have quality products that they stand behind if they want to retain business. If that doesn't work, ask to speak to Kelvin Dodds and let him know that we (on this forum are interested in how he handles your claim).

I'll say right up front that I have not yet placed an order for engine mounts, but will be soon...so I do not have first hand experience with the ones I'm going to mention.

The Winner's Circle ( https://www.spridget.com )lists "WC Easy Engine Mounts" in their catalog. The draw is that you only need to remove one bolt, saving time in the pit/shop. Expect to pay more for competition parts.

I can not attest to the longevity of the mounts, but I feel certain that the part, if it is comparable to the other "trick" parts they sell, has been through some rigorous on-track usage.

I'd suggest a call to Dave or Rob (216.889.4666) and just see what they say about use in a street car; do let them know about the problems with the replacement pieces from the major vendor(s).

THanks Ray. I have had problems with two sets. I will have to admit that I can't remember if the first set was new (embarrassing.) I will give them a call and see if their mounts are any better and give them a try.

PM me with parts numbers, please...I have a set on the table ready to go in my '63 Midget when it comes home...I want to check to see if there's any known problems with them.

I gave up on those guys in 1989.
And I restore at least 1 car a year and have not bought from them or one of their resellers since the chrome peeled off my Bugeye bumper when I was washing it.
I also met the CEO in 1992, I did not know who he was, he was working on a Sprite, in conversation, he asked where I bought my parts? I told him anywhere but there. Then he told me who he was and that he would PERSONALLY take care of things.
2008 and I'm still waiting.
