I drove my litte guy today

fuel pump went south

At least I got some time on her before the new year, this northeastern run was very late.

second fuel pump in one year, gives me time to think.

from the comments, are these little guys becoming relics or am I justing old. I guess that I am geting older.

Pat

First, I'd guess you have the fuel pump in a position where it is pushing the gas, not trying to suck the gas(it needs to be were gas flows to it). Second, make sure it is well grounded. Third, there is two types of pumps, one is square and pulses to pump. The other type has a round body and actually has a rotor type pump that pumps a more constant flow. Hope that one of these points helps resolve your pump issues.

Maybe both Pat. Fuel pumps are easy your local ORileys has em for about 40 bucks.

This fuel pump issue raises this question for me again -- mechanical or electric fuel pump. The 1275 block I'm using is a later one with the proper boss for a mechanical fuel pump on it. My plan has been to convert Tunebug to an electric pump, but why not use a mechanical one?

Obviously a good mechanical one can last 30 - 40 - maybe 50 years. Admittedly I have the Nissan A15 in my Midget, but pumps are pumps - right?
It has a mechanical pump on it, but early on when I was having what seemed like fuel delivery problems I chose to put in a decent electric pump.
One that fits the $70 dollar category at the local parts supply chain store.
It's just that reassuring tick - tick sound that is helpful to me, mentally. My old pump is still attached to the block, and I have no doubt that if I needed it I could simply attach the hoses and it would work.
I was going to remove it and put a blank plate on there, but I don't know where to get the right one - a touch of chrome down there might look nice. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
