She's been acting a little differently for the last month. At 15, she's been very normal, but she now doesn't run anymore, or wants to eat without coaxing her, and we can see the end is near. No more pets after her, I can't stand falling in love with them, and suddenly, they leave us. We'll nurse her to the end, but that seems not too far away. :cry:
 
Sorry, Paul. Can't imagine losing Jax, our rescue pup.

Reminds me of years ago a family cat. Reached almost 17 years old and in the end had to be helped with pretty much everything. Tough to see a family member reach the end of their road through life.
 
Sorry to hear that Paul. We made the same decision a few years ago for the same reason.
 
Paul we went through this several years ago when we put down our last pet. We decided she would be the last because at our age we did not ever want a pet outliving us.
 
Sorry to hear about your beloved pet. It would be wonderful if we could keep them forever, but sadly that is never the case.

The universe has our home on speed locate. All of our non human companions have been either rescues or strays and have come as dogs, cats, birds and even rabbits. It's a strange human phenomenon I think - Animals come into our lives. We know they won't be here as long as we will. They fill our hearts and souls. And their time comes to leave. And we mourn and our hearts hurt. And then the universe sends another, and we do it all again. My wife and I support a rescue in the evenings and take care of 15 +/- dogs and 3 horses. Plus we have our own dogs and cats. Yes, dogs and cats living together....mass hysteria! I am sure someone will know this one. :smile: Come home at the end of the day and no matter how the day went, these furry faces are happy to see you and the leftovers of the day fade away. I wouldn't have it any other way.
