Well ain't this just peaches and cream.

A suggestion, put the new pump on and keep the rebuilt one as a backup...

Learned a long time ago, that it's a good idea to verify the tenacity of the operation of a new component, rather than have it sit on a shelf somewhere.. When you go to install the shelf item and it doesn't work, it is usually well past any warranty replacement time that you would be able to recover from your supplier..

Ever having one of those moments, where you're glad you've solved your problem, but a bit embarrassed to admit what the solution was?

Turns out I still really didn't have the fuel pump lever correctly located on the cam. I removed the old pump in preparation for the new pump getting here on Tuesday, and I decided to take it completely apart so I could really understand it 100%. After getting it all apart and back together again, I just couldn't see why the priming lever should be effected even slightly by attaching the pump to the engine, unless the drive lever was incorrectly positioned underneath the cam. So I went and put it back on the car and played with it until I was most definitely sure without a doubt it was above the cam... then checked it, and tried again. Finally got it to sit correctly, and it just felt completely different. Tightened it down, reattached the fuel lines, primed the system, started the engine, and ran the car for about five minutes. It sounded really good, and... no leaking from the float bowls.

Guess that means tomorrow night I'm putting the front apron back on the car and getting it buttoned up enough to take for a short spin. Hopefully soon I can close out this way too long of a thread

Uh...how long have you got? I got a closet full of t-shirts from "been there, done that" moments like that!

I'm not surprised...but I'm also NOT saying "I told you so" (see above)!
