After I installed new rear springs and gained back an inch or so of ground clearance I had a fellow cut off the stubby pipe for my then-side exhaust and weld on a new pipe taking it back to the rear.
After--and only after--the job was done did I learn that arc-welding is not good for electronic distributors or alternators and that I should have at the very least turned off the ground switch. No apparent harm was done to either the Mallory Unilite or alternator, but in any case I pass this along.
