Welding Bugeye Spring Base Plate??

Hello,

Has anyone restored a Bugeye Sprite without welding the Spring Base Plate to the base of the Spring Box?

Welding them together seems to very much be a belt and suspenders approach given the fact that you have two 1/2 inch bolts and two 3/8 bolts tying them together along with the 1/4 elliptical spring.

Thanks Ken (restoring 1958 Sprite)

I welded the whole thing together. Remember the entire load of the rear axle goes through this assembly and the load is transferred through the box through the brace between it and the front cross member just in front of the seat. This spreads the load out through the entire monococque.
