Weld thru Primer, I don't like it!

I just used some weld thru primer for the first time. It is a copper base product. While you can weld through it, there is a lot of sputtering and it seems you have to burn through the paint before the weld will stick. Made my welds look bad.

Is this just a poor brand or are they all like that?

Ithought that it was more trouble than it waa worth... and it didn't seem very good as paint, either....
