Got a new turn siginal switch and R&R the two. Now all I need to do is touch the steering wheel and the horn blows. What's up with that? Maybe the car is happy now it finally got a replacment part.

sounds alot like a short...

My GT6, had a similar problem, when I hit the brakes the horn would blow....lol

Are you referring to the 250 or 3A? My 250 had a similar problem. When you had the wheel off to replace the turn signal switch you must have disturbed the brush or slip ring for the horn circuit. Take off the horn push and make sure that the wheel is seated properly. Check that the nut is tight. Is there an unusual amount of play in the wheel/steering shaft splines?

the horn push off and see if you can grab the brush pin with
needle nosed pliers and pull it upward a bit. If the horn stops
beeping, that's your problem child.

let us know how it works out.

Sorry it's the 250. I did not take the steering wheel off. Just removed the under column cover and pulled the wires through. I did take the horn button out but even with it out every time the steering wheel was touched the horn would still blow. I'm going to disassemble everything tonight and start from scratch. I'll be an expert at this when I'm done.

It's in and working better. I took it all apart and the purple wire for the horn looked fine. No brakes in the insulation but I still wrapped it in elect. tape. It still did it though after reassemble but I found if I pushed the column forward and tighten it there and it stopped. However when you turn it lock to lock I still get a light chirp out of the horn. I'll drive it today for work and see what happens. Thanks!

Are you using an aftermarket steering wheel, like a Moto-Lita? What can happen is the back of the steering wheel boss can get too close to the slip ring so you wind up grounding against it. If your steering column bushings are worn that extra play can make it worse.

Tinster and angelfj are on to the source and the cure for what ails your horn.

I had a similar problem after first getting on the road after resto.
Make a sharp enough left turn- the horn would beep. (Kinda embarrassing actually.)

Anyway, it was the slip ring contacting the 'horn brush' in the hub. These pieces need to be parallel. Wear and time take their toll on that relationship.

I rebushed the steering shaft with specially made delrin bushes (made by a machinist friend) to remove slop. Then I cobbed a special 'horn brush/horn button contact brush', not sure of the correct nomenclature, so that the default distances between brush and slip ring were correct; that is they didn't touch unless I pressed the horn button.

Has worked fine since then.

Sorry, no pics but Vol II of TRF parts book has pictures of these parts.

Keep on.

I think the problem in the bushes. From inside the engine compartment I could lift up on the shaft with much play and the horn would blow too. I have a original steering wheel and did not have to take it off to replace the switch. Everything was Ok before until I R&R the switch.

TOSH it is now doing what yours did in a hard turn with some pressure on the wheel "don't ask me how I tested that one" I get a little chirp out of the horn.

After 2 weeks of working on the TR's after midnight and till 1:30 AM I tired. Thanks for all of the tips but I'm taking a brake tonight.
