Weight of a Austin Healey

I would like to know the empty weight and the gross weight of a 1964 Mark III as delivered from the factory.

Did they weigh more then a TR6? They are about the same size. Would the TR6 out handle the Austin Healey?

Because of the aluminum front and rear did it help the handling?

Any help would be great.

...The TR6 was / is a much better handling car, the IRS makes all the difference.

---Maybe if you can find one that the ISP ain't broke.---Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer.gif

I had a '74 TR6 and it almost kill me. The front upper arm weld broke on the road and fliped the car many times. No more Tr's for me.

A good friend has a TR6, we have driven in convoy for many thousands of miles (7 trips to the Le Mans 24 hour race). Both cars are in first class condition. I can assure you that a BJ8 with slightly stiffer springs, and 185 section Avons is a much better handling car. Stright line performance, not sure, both cars are modified and they were about the same until I changed the triple 2"SU's for Webers on the Healey. This was however off set by more frequent fuel stops!Maximuum speeds very similar, but both cars are rev limited in O/D top.

....All I am going on is personal experience, had a TR6 from '70 to '78, it was a great car and was fantastic in the wet & snow, lived in B.C. Canada at the time. I had a lot of pals who had "flexy fliers" (Healeys)and all of them eventualy spun and stuffed them.....and yes I have a BN1/SBC now ...a real death trap!!! hahaha!

Well, Yes, when you lived up North maybe... But now you're in the Desert, better try a Healey again.

Johnny; SBC= "Santa Brought it for Christmas" He prayed for it all year long. Now he got enough torque so he too can spin in the wet.---Keoke-- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Does anyone auto crossed a Healey?

Tiga2,

I have nose emblems made for a your Tiga if needed. My Tiga is fixed from the mishap but needs race tires and a starter.

Yep, Healeys are regularly auto crossed at some of the meets.---Keoke
