We're in the busy time of the year now-busy, busy, busy!

We're having friends over Saturday for a visit and Sunday
morning the old man, Tito, Mateo and prima girlfriend Mara
are heading out for some tarpon sportfishing aboard Tres Gatos.

Since me and the Mrs are still on limited physical activity -
the young-uns crew gonna be takin' care of everything but cranking the reel!!

Mara's got fishin' in her bones, I tell ya!!

BTW: Mara's got an $800 reel in her hand. Mateo won it as 2nd place
in last years tarpon tourney. We're gonna take first THIS year!!

dale on the mend

Do a little scouting on a job for work and then the family is to hunt the elusive Christmas tree

Linda and I will be judges at the New Jersey FIRST Lego-League Robotics Competition. These are the "little" FIRST robots.

~Info Here~

I've been a FIRST volunteer and technical mentor for ten years and find it to be a wonderful experience.

We'll also start building our regular, "big" (non-Lego) FIRST robot in a few weeks.

We have about 80 kids and about 10 adult mentors building the "big" robot.
Typically, we build a 130 lb robot from scratch in about 5 weeks.
It's complete chaos.
I love it.

What we do depends on the weather & the power company. Last night's ice storm caused power problems here today that are projected to go into next week. No electricity & temps in the teens tend to change weekend plans. We were out all day today but have power now so I expect we'll be offering shelter to someone or other over the weekend.

We spend a couple of hours tramping through the woods - the ice on the trees was beautiful - but a lot of folks had a pretty rough day around here.

Keep safe, friend. Fire is your friend.

Sitting on my butt counting the minutes till I can leave to warmer climates on monday of course thats assuming the roads will be driveable on monday with the blizzard heading my way on saturday thru sunday night. Happy Happy Joy Joy

Saturday is the brunch for all of us who volunteer at America On Wheels, and then our granddaughter is coming over to stay with us while her parents go shopping. Sunday I a doing a "scavenger hunt" tour at AOW for a pack of Cub Scouts. In between the events I will get back to work on Brooklands Speedway scenery as I starting laying the bed and track for the amusement part train at Darnnear Park.

Going down to see grandson tomorrow...Jerri & I are taking him to the Embassy Suites hotel where we've rented a suite & are gonna spend the night with him (he's 2-1/2)....we were in his backyard the other day & he informed me sadly that the pool was closed until it got warm again...Embassy has an indoor pool so he & I are going swimming tomorrow afternoon! Then, we'll take him to eat wherever he wants (probably Pizza Hut), go back to the hotel & watch kiddie movies.

My daughter & son-in-law will meet us for breakfast Sunday morning at one of his favorite places - Cracker Barrel (yep, he definitely is my grandson!).

During the 1998 ice storm there were quite a few deaths due to house fires. For some people fires were the only heat for weeks until the power came back, but poorly maintained chimneys couldn't cope with the constant heat and soot build-up and they caught fire because of it.

I suspect John has no issue with his fireplace(s). Mainahs are a well prepared lot. His fireplace would be more than a "decor addition".

Doing estimated income taxes, and looking for loop holes.

Yep. ~Fireplaces~ are used for getting rid of rubbish, while ~woodstoves~ are used for heat. Regular fireplaces waste most of it.

We had it easy. My sister still has no power, phone, heat, or cell phone. No power means no water and in some places no septic. Her road was also blocked until this morning. She's doing fine except that her parrot is complaining.
