Who makes the best gas powered machine? Or are they all pretty much the same quality? Need one that will take a bit of abuse.

Thanks

I have a high wheeled D.R. 5.1/2 horse. non self propelled. It eats weeds and you don't have to carry it. The whips are thick, long lasting, and effective. Electric start, but will start manually on the first pull. --elrey

Sorry. I wasn't clear. I need a hand held unit with a very small gas engine.

I have a Troy-built with a 4cycle engine that is starting it's third summer. I just finished my first spool of "string" so have not used it a lot. I'm very pleased with it.

First string of spool.
Takes me a spool + just to do my yard each time

Shindaiwa professional is the only way to fly. After that, anything with an Echo engine.

I have abused my Shindaiwa for over ten years. It starts every time, even after sitting up all winter, with the same old gas. Bullet proof.

Shindaiwa, Husqvarna, Stihl, these are tried and true hand held. --elrey

I have thrown two (2) Stihls away over the years, literally. Blame that on the dealers never being able to make them run right.

Stick with Shindaiwa.....

Thanks all. I have been away too long. Never heard of Shindaiwa but will go with one of those.
Thanks again.

Bruce

I have worked my Stihl bladed brush cutter hard for two seasons now. My first choice for trimline would be the Shindaiwa, hands down. --elrey

Finished my first mow and trim of this mowing season.
Took 3 spools of dual feed line to do it this time.
I hate the fist time per year

umm, he must live in a high rise apartment... :jester:

Ahh no we have about 1/2 acre of yard. What we have done is landscaping in such a way that there is virtually no trimming required. I posted the amount of use so as to qualify my experience with my trimmer. I would not put up with a yard that took a reel at each mowing. String trimming is not one of my hobbies.

I guess that rules out candle making too

Rich, mine is 1.3 with about a half of it still wild with cedar stumps, blackberries(native and foreign) , wetland ,and a few snags.

Aha, now I know why hubby wanted to live in the Great Southwest. I think it might have had to do with something called mowing/trimming.

DNK, we'll let you live in our great state if you get tired.
