Wedgie Light Help needed.

OK, I have double checked the repair manual, i have test light the wiring, my lights still will not go up or down. The come on, the correct wires are hot when they are supposed to be. I figure it has to be a ground but I beleive the motors are grounded off the mounts. What am I missing here?
 
Brad says most of light motor problems are in the headlight limit switch.

Description

Here is a NOS headlamp limit switch for a TR7 or TR8. People often blame the headlight motor for headlamp failures, but more often it is the diodes in these switches that go bad. Why not grab one for a spare while they are still available?

If you look at the top post it seems only the wedge folks are still up.
 
OK, WHere is this peice, is it on the headlight motor?... I will have to go looking for it tomorrow...and both of my motors are not working now
 
Inside the limit switch on the light assembly are two sets of contacts that switch power to control when the motor shuts of for travel up and travel down. Also a couple of diodes. It would seem unlikely that both light assemblies are suffering from a broken connection in the limit switch?!

Maybe you could try adjusting the limit turnbuckle on the bench to make sure the limit switch breaks at full extension. There is the possibility that the limit switch never makes, power never makes it to the lift motor.
 
Sorry, I took a long time and repeated DN. I think that you can use diodes from any electronics supply store that can handle the current rating and replace the diodes in the limit switches.
 
Maybe we need a life? I just got my kids off to bed and now am doing thoe house chorse I should have done today instead of trying to fix my lamp motors... Thank goodness from Christopher Columbus for giving us the day off
 
OK, I wasted my entire week end on this, plus Columbus day! I have four working motors. If I take them out of the mounts and plug them in they spin like crazy. I put them back in and the passanger side makes an effort, the driver side does nothing. What am I missing? The passanger side sound like it is just not powerful enough to flip them up even when I put in the motors from my FHC which I never had trouble with. The passanger side had me on the verge of just giving up, it does nothing.

For some reason I think that the motor power is a series line from the motor relays to the connection on the passenger side and then over to the driver's side. (Bear with me please) If so then if the current to motor #1 is low there wouldn't be enough at motor #2 to do anything. Or if motor #1's wiring has a short in the connector a small amount may make it to motor #1 and none to motor #2.

Maybe the motors relay has bad contacts or the fuse block connectors to the motors relay contacts has a poor connection. I replaced the fuse block on my FHC because I was getting a poor connection to the lighting circuit. Turns out previous owner had wrong fuses in also.

You could try jumpering 12 volts directly to the output of the motors relay and eliminate the relay.

No I have not. I spent so much time last week end fustrated on this I have not even thought of it until now. I will wrestle with it tomorrow evening for an hour (refuse to fight it all day) How would bad relays effect the lights?
