I added a page to my website showing this past winter's progress. It's "The Fifth Year" at https://tinyurl.com/7abt5

Painted the engine compartment and solved a couple of problems. I've driven the car some since the update, and I'm amazed at how much quieter the car is as a result of filing the exhaust manifold mounting points flat. There'll be no more questions/whining from me about how to get a quieter exhaust.

The update also shows my new project. Hope you take a minute to check it out.

Gives me hope that my thoughts of doing a rolling restoration are reasonable. I really want to keep driving the car while I work on stuff, and you've given me some hope.

I like what you did with the driver's side floor patch, making the little indent a bit lower. I'm 6'1" with large feet, so I might just have to do something similar when I get around to patching my floor.

Beautiful car - love the scooter....so, when do you start the son's car? Looks like you've got enough time to finish one for him....hehehehe

If I was doing the floorpan modification again, I wouldn't use the angle iron. I'd piece it together out of sheetmetal with nicely angled edges so the floor mat would sit better. But what a difference that little bit of extra depth makes. It's a lot more comfortable.

Luckily my boy's a long way from driving a car, and to be honest I'm not sure he's big enough even for the scooter. But he's not pushing to drive it on his own yet. And I think I'm like most over-protective parents: his first car's going to be a '70's Impala or something else that puts a ridiculous amount of metal around him.

One thing that scooter does for me: I'll never complain about having enough room to work on the Midget. You'd need a child's hands to get at some of the things that need getting to.

Well, there you go - the perfect thing to teach him on! All you can do is watch & instruct while his little hands get up in there turning wrenches.

I love the pictures,I wish more people documented their restorations like you have done.

Thanks, Timboy. "Inspired" is a word I can relate to. When I see a good site it inspires me to continue and to tackle the tough jobs I've been putting off. Based on the comments I've gotten I think my site makes many people feel that they don't have as bad a car as they thought they had. And to be honest, I just didn't know I had it that bad. I genuinely enjoyed the work and making progress, and now the worst of it is definitely behind me.
