Weber tuning

I have sooty deposits in my tailpipe. I pulled the plugs and they were not bad, so I downloaded a thread how to tune a Weber DGV carb. First thing it said was pull choke and start car do not pump gas pedal. I couldn't start car without giving it gas. I checked the choke cable seemed tight. What else should I check if anything? Secondly, it says with idle set 800-900rpm set timing at 15 degrees BTDC with vacuum line attached. Looking at timing marks facing firewall would that be 0 to 20 degrees from left to right or right to left? Lastly, is Seafoam a brand name? Can I get it at NAPA store? Do I add it to the gas??

Check out the Seafoam site. Should answer some questions. https://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUp.htm

Never used it myself, but read on other forums that is works great. Guess you need to ask your NAPA dealer if he carries it.

Sorry, cannot answer any other questions that you have. However, will follow this thread, having a Weber myself. Would like to read the thread you are referring to.

Keep us posted.

Before you adjust the timing, try this site for DGV carb adjustment. Simple and really works well. THEN if you still have a problem, adjust the timing and re-adjust the carb. My crede after years as an aircraft mech: Don't adjust anything that you don't know is causing the problem. You could make it worse!
