weber difference?

OK ... so here the topic I was originally searching when I happened upon Basil's incredible British Car Forum (thanks Basil!)

I have a '78 Midget (first one - just bought it a couple of months ago) with the factory Zenith Stromberg carb. Been thinkin' 'bout going Weber, but they seem rather expensive. This is purely a hobby car that I will be using for toolin' 'round town - not racing or anything. But would like a bit better performance, and something to talk about at the club gatherings and car cruises.

Question: theoretically speaking, how much performance improvement can I expect going from a properly tuned factory single Zenith Stromberg to a Weber? What are the alternatives - SU's? ... dual SU's? anything else?

... and, interestingly, why would MG not have used similar technology as the Weber (or other alternatives) when spec'd from the factory?

... wide open guys ... lemmee have it. (thanks, in advance ...) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/computer.gif

Lots of different views on this, My personal favorite would be to fit the twin SUs (sold on Canadian Spits and Euro Midgets). You can fit a single large SU (HS4) to that manifold pretty easily too.

roughly speaking, how much increase in power can be expected ... from either the twin SU setup or the Weber ... is it substantial, or just a little?
