Only Weber conversion for a B is a DCOE mod

You are such a sidedraft snob /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

How good of you to notice! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Gentlemen,

In all deference to DrEntropy and his insistance that the Weber is the way to go...

I still vote for the SU...

So there. Nerny...Nerny... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

I ain't disagreein' with SU's on a stock B engine at all! Onna contrary I would highly recommend it. 'specially over a downdrag FIAT aspirator. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

I gotta get to work....

Maybe I will buy another B just to trick it out..

You know, lake pipes, 327, hydromatic, big tires, flames... and, of course, webers....even if they don't fit on the 327... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Gotta go guys. See you later.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

Don't you mean respirator? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Hmm, can you imagine how many hours needed to tune this monster?

Hello aroostock,

I think it is quite clear what the general opinion is, here and one I concur with.

Perhaps what is not appreciated is that the S.U. is a variable choke carburettor which ensures high airflow over the jet at all speeds and gives very good atomisation. Just about every other carburettor has a fixed choke (Zs excepted, which was a copy of S.U. principles anyway.)
So this gives the S.U a good advantage as far as driveability goes for a street car.
The only Weber that I like are the out and out competition types but they need an appropriate engine, as has already been stressed. Even then, a large DCOE gives only slightly more power at the top of the rev range.

The other point is that S.U.'s can cost to have them rebuilt, but most home mechanoics can fit a repair kit at a reasonable price. Just read the manual and understand what is involved, but they are very simple.

Nearly to th' minute, Scotty! I'm better at THAT than at changing a lightbulb.

That's my Ferrari "engine of choice", hands down.

I've a piston from one sittin' right beside me now... ashtray. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Sigh.......clunk.

Hey youse guys...

I'm back....

Now I have to contend with carb envy?!?!? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

Piman,

by the way.. nicely articulated elucidation of the advantages and design of the SU.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bow.gif

Some of the atomisation benefits of the needle were nullified later on when the design was changed to the spring loaded variety. A sneaking little laminar flow effect was present which was unaccounted for in the design phase...

How'd I do, Ron? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

DrEntropy,

Ya' done good.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
