TR2/3/3A Weber Air Filters

The tallest filter that will fit my TR3 is 2 1/4". The shortest ram/stack is 1". Will a K&N 4 1/2 X 7 oval 2 1/4" with 1" stack allow enough air for Weber DCOE 40s? The filter would have closed front and back.

They're short (16mm) but pricey, at least you only need four of them:

Hopefully you bought the filters for a 45 DCOE. If you bought filters for a 40 DCOE, they will work but you will need to open up the holes in the base plate so they will clear the ring on the ram stack for the retainer tabs.

I watched your video, if it makes you feel any better, I had the grind some of the retainer tabs on 40 DCOEs, it's not just because you were trying to fit them to 42s.

The other thing as you mentioned, the ram stacks position and hold the auxiliary venturi on the 38, 40 and 42 DCOE so at the very least the sleeve part of the stack that sticks into the carb body between it and the auxiliary venturi needs to be in place if one were to decide to just lop off the stack above the ring for the retainer tab, not that I'm recommending doing so. Those APT 16mm stacks are the only ones that I know of right of hand that work with the short K&N oval filter set up.

They should if I'm recalling the Weber DCOx series dimensions correctly ( I'm out of town and don't have access to all my reference and technical information). Besides the guys at APT say in that listing to use the 45 DCOE filter with those stubby ram stacks. In my dealings with APT, I just can't imagine them saying that if they would not fit but you could always contact them for clarification. I already had filters for the 40 DCOE sitting on the shelf and didn't feel like ordering up another set of filters, so I opened up the holes in the base plate. Since these were going on a TR6, that was six holes to open up and let me assure that while it is definitely "doable," it was a rather tedious task that took longer than expected.
