Weber 38 DGES Headaches

My '74 MGB-GT I purchased a year ago with a Weber 38 DGES conversion has run very well. It now runs like it has a severe vacuum leak. It doesn't. Surges and dies at idle (if it idles at all). Runs horrible at steady speeds but accelerates fine.

I took the carb completely apart, reassembled and it ran fine for 200 miles then gradually deteriorated. I took it partially apart and again it ran fine for 200 miles. Last time I took just the top off, put it back on and again ran fine for a short time then gradually went downhill....same symptons.

Any ideas? Does anyone know where I can get a "detailed" description of this carb, how it works, how to tune etc.

Google Pierce Manifolds, they have exploded views of the carb and a tech section on tuning Webers.
 
Are all the electrical connections working? The idle solenoids (I think that's what there called off hand see picture) need to have power. If they do not have power it will run like described or 1 or both the solenoids could have or are failing.

I checked them out. Lot's of good info but I'm really looking for is a description the different circuits and how they work together. THANKS. I'll give them a call.
 
check for a leak where the base meets the manifold, and for leaks in the manifold. I had an issue where the weber was not properly bolted to the manifold. A few turns of the wrench and it was back to normal
