Weatherstripping Seal & Caps for BJ8

I am installing my new weatherstripping, and the end caps will not fit the way they did doing the same job several years ago.

I would like to “dress” the ragged ends of the weatherstripping, but the weatherstripping available today is a different size from that of several years ago. What’s everyone doing today to address this problem? Looking for ideas.

I am almost at this job also. I do remember doing a little trimming on the seal and then using some glue to hold the cap in place on my 67. But that was 13 years ago. Maybe someone has more recent experience

A little trimming of the seal and cap.
You might have to modify the end cap by cutting it in certain places to make it fit.
A good glue (possibly contact cement) should help keep everything together.

I did a lot of trimming to no avail. I not only removed the fabric about 1/2” from the end, but also the rubber that encases the metal, but it was an odd looking fit when done. I was told by the supplier that I purchased them from that the rubber caps do not match any of the door seals that are available today. With that said, I used black adhesive for the end of the weatherstripping and used tape to create a smooth finished line for about 1/2” from the end of the cap for the black adhesive.

Here you are. I’m not done yet as you can see my door trim is not secured. I have not done the drivers side until I see the final look of the passengers side.

I thought it would look better than the black tape used at the ends of the scuttle seals that was applied by the factory.

I remember going through the same issue with my BJ8s . The caps simply do not match the profile of the newer seal . You would think that the manufacturers would get their collective you know what together and come up with a solution but they just keep on producing parts that don’t fit and don’t look correct .
I think I ended up cutting and modifying the end cap to better suit the profile of the seal .
