We need more Minis!

Actually that sounds about right, as it's a rolling target - 25 years or older, so now in the year 2003; take away 25 equals about the year 1977. So in about 4 to 5 years you guys in the States can legally import a Rover shelled Mini (currently a fairly popular Mini here in Canada)

Ultimately it is illegal, Minis get away with it because the production of the same car with basically minor changes continued for so long. Having said that I would guess that in 99.99% of these cases with Mini's the government would likely never know or find out, and the mechanicals are pretty much the same anyway.

Now should you do it... Everyone can decide on their own.

Thanks Sherlock. I am actually more interested in the older minis, but it woul be nice to have the option of an 80's mini that ran on unleaded.

Oh well, I still ain't buying a Cavalier or Escort.

Huck, You'll have no trouble finding a Mini that runs on unleaded. Most of the cars that are imported have been converted. Unleaded has been used in most of the origin countries for a long time.
