Major/mega flooding happening all over central and southern Alberta today! Basically any property that's on a flood plain is likely deep in water... I've been out taking a few photos just around my place, most of the major roads are blocked, pretty much all river crossings are also closed so I'm kind of stuck here actually...

Some photos...

Three blocks from the river!

Entrance to Stampede Park... Calgary Stampede is supposed to start in two weeks, and the entire site is flooded...

We've been watching this on the news all day. What a rotten situation.

Take care of yourselves!
Tom

I have heard we are a bit of a news maker right now, not for a good reason...

I'm fine Steve, I was close to some of the major flooding but where I live is on high ground, however travel today is very limited with lots of flooded roads still, downtown will likely be under evacuation until the middle of next week...

Do stay high and dry. Also safe. - Yes, that's an order and you don't want to mess with me....

I'll try Judy... In the meantime... :p

I did make an attempt to make it downtown this afternoon to take photos, thwarted! :mad-new:

I ran into another photographer who made it across one of the bridges early in the morning and walked around all over the place, alas my attempt was met with a traffic jam which I didn't feel like dealing with, I'm just on the wrong side of the river to get over there easily, a little frustrated right now, I guess I'll have to live with what I've got so far, meantime other people get the best downtown shots because they live in the right district of town... :grumpy:

The early bird... "Right" section of town? You mean the part that floods? Sounds like ~YOU'RE~ in the right area. :friendly_wink:

Actually... I'm south of downtown, which leaves me largely landlocked even right now, I have very few options to head northbound at all... Anyone who lives north of downtown has far more ability to get to different places of flooding damage (ie. take photos)... The city is even saying that before they open the bridges - after flooding subsides - they will have to do an engineering assessment to check for critical damage, which if that takes too long leaves me in big bind for getting around and general mobility, can you tell I'm getting a little frustrated right now... Even though my place is fine I feel like my life has been turned upside down... :p

Will do my best, just trying to avoid the river banks, or at least not too close... I've heard that large chunks of our river pathway system in the downtown were chewed up by the river on Friday morning... May stop by tomorrow to take a look, just for old times sake...

Alright... Flood advice needed...

My place is fine and I'm grateful for that, we were always high and dry here as I said, but the damage here in Calgary is epic and I'm starting to get depressed about this situation, it's like life has been turned upside down... I spend lots of my time and much of my photography in the inner city which has been altered considerably... It just seems like it's going to be the worst summer ever the way things are going right now... Part of it is the constant media bombardment locally, and we are in a stage of emergency still, and I'm feeling overwhelmed by it all... I know a normal level of activity is going to take awhile to get back to, given the level of destruction we've had, but I'm starting to get impatient at times... And now I have an extra long weekend because my job is tied into the City of Calgary (through a private company), hopefully to resume on Tuesday after the Canada Day holiday... I'll be fine for money, I can use vacation time to cover the two days off...

I live close to some of the areas of home destruction so I think I'll head down there to see if I can help out in any way, I think I need to do that... Help!
