Water transfer decal on BJ8 air cleaners

I'm replacing the water transfer decals on my 65 BJ8 air cleaners. I seem to remember that the decals are not supposed to be centered on the edge of the air cleaner (looking down upon them). Are the decals supposed to be "offset"? If so, left or right and by how much? If anyone has a photo, that would be great. Thanks.

I've looked at several pictures that I've taken over the years and poured over many Healey books for photos. Most show the water transfer decal centered on the edge of the air cleaners. I found a couple that were "off-center". Somewhere I read or was told that the decals are supposed to be off-center. However I learned this, it made an impression on me to remember it. It is one of those small details, and when you have the chance to get it right, try and get it right. Picky, picky, picky, I know. Maybe I'm all wrong on the off-center issue. Somebody is bound to know something about this (I hope).

Thanks for the picture. Looks perfectly centered to me. Anyone know anything different? I haven't found anything in writing yet(just the previous post's picture and many others from books. Again, a couple were off-center).

Hi Rob,

The description in the concours guidelines and the pictures in the Anderson/Moment book show it centered. Perhaps the "offset" you have seen was "factory variance" aka "friday afternoon"? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bingo on "Friday variance"--a few photos do show the decals off-center. I've looked at photos and asked others much more knowledgeable than myself (such as those in this forum). I need to put this to rest and go with "centered". If I find out otherwise, after a couple of years the water decals fade and crack, and thus will be replaced. I'm replacing the air cleaners after about 15 years, and it seems about every three or fours years I've replaced the decals due to "wear". Consider this thread closed--at least for now.
