I recently purchased a new water pump for my 67 BJ8. I noticed that the impeller was smaller and internally vaned. The original impeller is about twice as thick and looks more like a paddle wheel. The flow from this new pump seems to be very poor. Since I can no longer return this pump I was thinking of having a repair shop swap impellers. Can this be done? Any ideas? Thanks, SF

I simply do not know if the impellers are interchangeable. Here are my thoughts ,if this pump's impellor is smaller the larger one may not have adequate faying surface cast in the pump body for it to work properly, just a guess. Since pumps are not that expensive you might consider purchasing another one from a different source.However, static running of the big Healey engine may yeild inaccurate results. The thermostat should also be verified as being good and of the correct temperature range-FWIW---Keoke

It may be standard terminology, but from the generally accepted definition, I'm not sure which water pump parts you are refering to. The mating surfaces which are gasketed? Just trying to learn something.
