This afternoon I filled my radiator as one of the final steps in resurrecting Sprite engine. Shortly after I started pouring into the radiator I heard splashing under the car. When I turned the handle on the block drain spigot the stream of fluid stopped. Feeling smug with myself I finished filling the radiator to the top. Everything seemed fine. Tonight I did a garage check and saw a stream of wetness running away from under the car. After a bunch of paper towels and a wet back it appears that the source of the leak is my water pump. Do I need to order from one of the usual parts suppliers or is there a chance that a place like NAPA or Autozone might carry a replacement to use on my 948? If I have to order from afar I won't reach my goal of starting the engine this week.
 
Moss can have it to you Tue, most likely ground UPS even.
 
You oughta have a Beck/Arnley parts vendor SOMEPLACE nearby. Has the guy in Mentor packed it in? I'd try NAPA, actually.
 
I just checked my local NAPA store and they would have to order the pump from Georgia. It would take several days and cost $55 plus shipping. I can get the Moss version for about $30 plus shipping. Looks like I'll order one tomorrow from someplace other than NAPA.
 
I'll give Advance a call in the morning. I like the idea of a local source. I'm glad to have multiple places to check.
 
This morning I called my local Advance and was told they couldn't get a pump for me. Then I called Peter C. at Worldwide and he advised me to hold off buying a new pump. He said that he gets calls every spring from Sprite drivers who have stored their cars for the winter. When the engine is first started the seal does not seat properly and this results in leaking. He said that I should remove the belt and turn the pump pulley for a few minutes or even run the engine for a few minutes. Generally this will reseat the seals and the leak should stop shortly. I haven't had a chance to try this yet but I certainly plan to give it a shot.
