I have been trying to "de-bug" a 1960 Rover 100. After 40 years if sitting in a barn, there are a few. My current project is sorting out the cooling system and it seems there is a stream of water coming out of the water pump itself below the spindle and bearing. The gasket to the engine block is tight. I see from the workshop manual there should be a seal behind the impeller. Although I cannot feel any "wobble" in the spindle, my guess is the seal has dried out.

Here is the question: Have any of you rebuilt a pump and if so, was it succesful? Was the seal available from the normal suppliers?

I sent a water pump (Rover 3.5V8) out to a shop that rebuilds water pumps to get it rebuilt. cost me about $40. Could take awhile to locate parts, but maybe not.
 
You can get waterpumps new for $79 to $99 for a 3.5 from Proline. Check with RoversNorth.com.
 
I don't think so, that's why I suggested getting it rebuilt. That way you will know you have the right water pump. Try asking around the custom auto repair shops -- the kind that work on antique cars -- that is how I found out who to send mine to.
 
Can you find the core # on the pump? I have an old chart from the 60's on waterpumps and may be able to cross a part#, wild chance but possible. Back then a lot of the cars had the same parts, such as Jag, Rolls, and etc.

However, I cannot find a cast number. I did find a shop which will rebuild the pump so that is the way I will go.
