hi again, i am in the process of trying to replace the water pump on this 1975 midget, first problem ,the local autoparts keeps giving me the wrong pump.(1275), they say its the only one listed for a 1975? do i need to tell them to look up a triumph spitfire? second, how do you remove the fan clutch from the pump shaft? can you use a pulley remover? i just dont want to damge the insert. thanks, joe

If you go to rockauto.com and do a search for 1977 Spitfire, they have a rebuilt pump for $34. It comes with a new retainer ring. I used a pulley puller to get mine off. It worked fine.

A three-armed puller works too, there are actually notches on the clutch spaced 120 degrees apart for that purpose. Putting the clutch on I just used a big C-clamp.

thanks guys,i just ordered one from oriellys , i made them lookup the 75 spitfire. thier listing for the 75-79 midget waterpump looks like the one from a 74 w/1275?? also, thanks for the info on removing the fan clutch. joe
