Water pump identification

Hey guys. We have a 1975 MGB with an engine from a 1970. The engine just got rebuilt, but we're not sure what water pump to buy. The serial number is not on the block anymore (from what I had a friend check. Engine is at my school, and since we are on spring break, I have no access to it to double check).

Here are some pictures:

I have higher resolution pictures if needed. Thanks for the help.

Looks like a QPC-738 by Quinton Hazel; the new one has a stamped steel impeller instead of cast iron. Should be about $50 or so.

Are you still running an air pump? If so, you might need some brackets/spacers.

There are basically four different pumps in the "B" series engines. 62/64 18G/GA engines. 65/71 18GB/GK engines. 72 to mid 74 18V engines and 74 1/2 to 80 18V engines. Just get a pump for a 65 to 70 engine. If your sure that you have a 70 engine. Check the clock on the block under the distributor to see when it was casted. PJ

Your pictures of the old water pump look exactly like mine. I have a 1970 MGB and I just replaced the water last month. I still have the bad one. If you want I could take a picture of it and you can compair the differances. Now take that with a grain of salt because the new one I just bought was from Moss has little minor differance from the old one.

Thanks for the help guys. Dad ordered the pump for the 65/71 years. Looked it like it fit, and well, it does. Heh.

So far, everything is back on the engine, just need to connect everything back up, get some fuel lines, new hoses, and a new belt, and it should be ready to run. I'll probably post a buildup thread in a week or two.
