Water in the footwell

I finally finished fitting the chrome sill cover plates to Harold (I lost several fingers in the process: the edges of those things are murderously sharp).

So it was time to get the hose out and give Harold a wash down. After sloshing copious amounts of Adam's Ale all over, I took a look inside and could see a small puddle of water in the driver's set footwell! And I can't see where it came from.

Uh oh. What's the most likely location of the leak?

Fresh air vent in front of windshield. It could also be getting in the engine bay and getting through under brake MC assembly. Ditto the other side under the canister.

Julian, Did you clean out the fresh air vent well drain hose? Seems to me we mentioned this before, but I'm not sure. The duck tail on the bottom of the drain hose fills with dirt and debris and won't let any water out. In turn, the trapped water will find any pin hole, thus, water on the floor pan. Just a thought. PJ

PS, If you have to clean it out, it must be done from underneath the car. Keep your face clear, or you'll get a mouth full of dirt.

Thanks for the advice, guys. No, I haven't cleaned them out properly, but I did notice they weren't draining, so recently I had tried to clear a hole in the muck from above.

I'll get under the car and take a look.

Julian, My 72 and my 79 both were clogged so tight that I had to use a very stiff wire from below to break the dirt loose. In fact, I used a welding rod in one because it was packed so tight. PJ

A small piece of dowel works fine too.

The other location you could be leaking is around the wiper wheelboxes. There are supposed to be small rubber washers under them. That's where mine and my sister's BGT's were both leaking (some DPO's had not replaced the washers at some stage).

That's probably it! I have removed the wiper blades and nuts/rubber washers underneath in order to do some remedial painting, and I bet the water was entering there.

You could make new washers from an intertube. that use to be the solution.

eep. It's a straight shot from the wiper arm actuators to the footwells.
