Ran into trouble when replacing wheel cylinders on a '67 MKIII spitfire.
1) As shown in the photo below, the fully collapsed dimension on the cylinders is roughly 45mm. When the drums wouldn't fit over the brake shoes, I discovered that the compressed dimenion of the old cylinders was roughly 42mm. In order to resolve the issue, I had to grind down (very slighly) the contact pads on the brake shoes.
2) after the brakes were assembled and bled, and after a test drive and overnight sit - the next morning there was some seepage around the bleeders. Two attempts to re-seat them failed; I had to replace the bleeders with the old ones to stop the seepage.
The wheel cylinders used were AP / Caparo. Perhaps I got a "bad set", or maybe I missed something - but the experience is worth sharing in case someone else has this problem.
