When operating a car lift, always watch your clearances above and below. Shown here is an example of what happens when you don't follow this simple rule

Paint only, and I was planning to repaint the hood anyway so not a big deal. It still makes a guy feel like an idiot though.

Some of my biggest fears lately are of droping stuff on the GT. Winter months are great for working on the house so I am constantly in and out of the garage getting stuff. I have a large overhead rack above the cars where I store pipe for electric and plumbing and all my trim. I should push the cars out of the way before I do it but not always so easy. I hope to not have to post pics like this but I'll learn one day.

Buy a couple packing blankets and lay them (double layered) on top of the car. That should protect you from anything of reasonable weight. Better safe than sorry! I'm all about protection from falling objects here in the land of earthquakes. Everything in my garage is in locked cabinets. There are no shelves or lofts.
