Watch list - delete all?

Has anyone found a way to delete *all* the topics from your Watch List? (Don't ask why ... I'm just grasping at a straw to try to get my email updates going again.)

I open the watch list, then choose Edit. I thought I could just choose "select all", then uncheck a few that I want to keep. There's no "select all" choice.

So to delete topics, I have to individually check every single one of the hundreds I've got on the list.

Is there a way to quickly delete them all? Maybe Basil can pluck the magic twanger?

Thanks.
Tom

I will bet that you remember Soupy Sales. That would classify us both as old guys.

Don't know if this works but perhaps it's worth a try. Icon on beginning of list, hold the shift key and scroll down. Then right click on the highlighted list and click 'delete.'

That's what I do when I want to delete a list or lengthy text on the screen.

Good luck.

Old guy here, believe me. Grew up with Ding Dong School (I thought Miss Frances was cool!). And the Today show, with Dave Garroway and J. Fred Muggs. Watched on a 1947 Admiral tv with a 12" screen!

Re: watach list: I tried the "click first icon, hold shift, click last icon" technique. No go. I'm guessing that only the forum admin can delete all the watched topics at once.

argh. The only email update notices I get are on Basil's Forum Happenings - "Future of BCF" for some reason. So I have to visit each forum and hit refresh, then scroll down to see if any of my watched topics have been updated.

Email updates are *so* much more efficient.

Question: Bill and J - are you getting all the email notices you expect on topics you're watching?

The fact that we are not receiving emails from the watch lists is a known bug in the software - I doubt anything you will do is going to fix that until the software bug is fixed. REMEMBER - this is a Beta version of software. I knew there would be "some" bugs but decided the development was far enough along, and the extra features made it worth the risk. Rest assured that as we "discover" these bugs, I'm making sure that the developer knows about them so they can be fixed in future releases. As for "Select All" option for the watch lists, it doesn't exist now but I will make the suggestion that they ad it - I think it makes sense.

Thanks Basil. I didn't realize the "not receiving emails" was affecting everyone.

I'm pretty sure it is. I know the developer is aware of it and I'm hoping they will get that fixed soon.

I found out something interesting today. I got the emails to work again. When I turned on a "Watched Forum" email notification, the "Watched Topics" started to flow. What is strange is I only turned on the Austin Healey watched forum, but topics that aren't in that forum are being emailed to me. It seems like it is a series filter.

Interesting development: I tried Greg's technique of adding a Forum to my watch list. Checked Email New Post.

That worked- but I got an email notice of every single new post, whether it was to a topic in my watch list or not. My individual "watched topics" are still dead in the water.

Patience - must have patience!

Greg - you mentioned you only turned on the AH forum. Are you getting email notices of posts on your watched topics in NON Austin Healey forums?

Yes, In "Watched Forums", I only have Austin Healey and AH gallery set to email me. Under "Watched Topics" I have "The Future of BCF" listed, which isn't in the healey forum. I get emails now for "The Future of BCF". As a side note, I also changed my public and private email to the same in my profile, though I don't think that has a bearing.

I'd suggest turning on a watched forum that doesn't get much traffic and see what happens. Are you watching any users? that may be why you get emailed things that are not on your watched topic list, just speculating here. As Basil said, this should all work properly once the beta is finalized. This inconsistency may help the coders track the problem down.

Thanks Greg. So I understand you right: you're getting email notices of *every single new post* to the AH forum. Not just to the AH topics that are on your watch list? In other words, you're not just getting AH emails on topics that you're watching? You're getting AH emails on *all* the AH topics that are being updated?

Funny - the *only* email updates I get after the software upgrade are the posts in "The Future of BCF".

Any *forum* I put on my watch list sends me email on every new thread or post that's made there. Whether I'm watching the thread or not - but I think that's what the Forum watch list is for - you get all the threads or posts. As I don't want to know every single update on every topic on the entire forum, I turned off Forum emails. And Topic emails don't work for me - and I assume you too.

Basil thinks this is all due to the recent upgrade - evidently it's a "known issue". But if everyone is missing all their topic email notices, it's a *big* known issue!

Tom

Just FYI - the "Watched Forums list means you will get a notification when there is any post in a forum your are "watching" if you have email notifications turned on....not a good plan for forums where there are lots of posts. I'd only use that for things like forum announcements, ect. The threee lists (Watch Topics, Watch Forums and Watch Users work independently). Seems that the Watched Topics is what is not working properly.

Hi Tom,
With only the Brit bike gallery as a watched forum:
I have received emails for topics on the Spridget, Triumph, Pub and Forum Happenings Forums. I have also received notices for watched users regardless of topic they post in. The emails however, do not get sent if I am logged in to BCF.

If you're watching a user, you will "should" get a notification anytime they make a post regardless of which forum, if you have email notification on. However, I did not know about the need to be logged off first...that's interesting.

Maybe the software assumes it's easier to check the watched list in your "My Stuff" than to switch over to an email program.

Edit: Watched User emails come through even when I'm online at BCF.
