Thanks Doug. Now I'm really curious. Does your cable system have its own ground where it enters the house?

I've been reading a lot of negative comments on "cable surge protectors", cutting way down on internet speeds, so cable companies now use a direct "ground" at the point of entry.

Yes, the coax shield is connected to ground at their box and right inside our crawlspace. They have a wire from the connector shell over to our plumbing (copper pipes).

I have to call CA to discuss this with the digital readout company to see if they will work with me on troubleshooting and/or replacement of the scales. So far we have spent $100 on the new network router. If I have to replace these scales out of pocket, that will be another $200. The TV we lost was my later father's 13" tube-type TV. It has to have been over 30 years old so I really cannot be upset about losing it. I also had another old family 13" TV to replace it with.

Doug, check for a "fuseable link" before you buy a replacement. Have had a couple microwave ovens hit with spikes and found the burnt track on the PCB. Linked 'em with a bit of solder (defeating the link's purpose but got the use of the devices back).

The 13" TV is gone now. It was taken to the recycling center at the landfill on Saturday. I may have mentioned earlier, this was my late father's TV so I would guess it was about thirty years old and therefore not worth the investment of any time or money to fix. That was especially true since I had another idle 13" TV ready to take its place.

I am most concerned about the digital readouts for my mill. They were brand new (6 weeks). I have started a dialog with the vendor regarding troubleshooting. Hopefully they are just in a frozen state and can be made to work again.

Doug - many homeowner's insurance policies cover damage due to power surges. After a $50 deductible, mine paid for a new HDTV, washer, dryer, refrigerator. Yours might just cover that mill, or at least the repair for the mill.

Just a thought.
Tom M.

My concern about any claim (or even an inquiry about filing a claim) is that it would give the insurance company an excuse to drop me. This may sound paranoid but it was a fairly well documented problem a decade or so back. And remember, just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you.

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 1 characters. Was trying to. reply with quote from Paul161 showing all the new fangled gadgets.

Hubby says we can all use these instead. Wife
says I don't think so.
