Our "Brand New" Samsung range fan stated making noises.
Almost never use it (the convection fan).
Wife checked the paperwork - yep,it's off warranty.

Wow, and here I was going to make the observation that if I had those I would have lots of time to use them because SWMBO would take one look at that technology and would walk right on out the door! :grin:

A Rumpole reference? Years ago I bought my wife a mug with She Who Must Be Obeyed silk screened on it. She loved it.

Back on topic, this has been my month of repairs for MANY home related things. Nothing seemed to have broken in a couple of years and now many things have just fallen apart. I'll be glad when this wave of failures is behind me.
 
Most of our repairs have been related to cars. Within the last couple of months: 1. had to put a new Transmission in the 10 year old Santa Fe, 2. also had to replace a noisy front hub on the same car. 3. My wife's BMW Z4 just had to have a new starter installed and 4. the front left headlight is not working (and all the components bulbs and controller have been replaces and wiring checked leaving the only possible problem the headlamp fixture itself (not cheap). 5. Then my youngest son's power window winder on his PT cruiser just broke ( I suspect the cable has snapped and of course you can't just buy the cable - have to get the entire winder assembly with motor). I suspect the home-related wave of stuff breaking will start any day now.

Just FYI, when you upload a picture from your computer it puts it in your post as a thumbnail. If you double click the thumbnail you will get a pop up that allows you to center and make it large (Do this before you save your post). I fixed it for you.

Update. 1. Washer repairman came on time. 2. Circuit board was fine. Wife was right. Washer problem WAS related to the well blowout. Sediment was clogging the machine. I wasn't home when he came but he showed wife how to clean filter. 3. There was no charge for the service. Dodged a bullet. I think I'll buy a lottery ticket.

I can resize a pic like that from my desktop but it doesn't work for me on my iPhone when I double tap the pic. Is there another way to resize a pic when posting from a mobile phone?
 
All my recent household problems must be related to a nearby electrical strike. Last night I found that my old 13" garage TV and its DTA (dumb cable box) were both dead. I can generally handle mechanical failures but electronics are not on my list.
 
Doug - I'm thinking that as things get more and more complicated, with more and more micro-circuits, eventually there will be nothing left we mortals can fix ourselves. To keep some sanity, we need to hold on to our old cars!
 
I'm thinking about replacing our '95 Dakota,
before we move to Virginia,& am looking into pre-97 Ford
F150 4WDs.
I'm also planning on taking the MGB GT & Midget.

FWIW Doug, why not replace the Dakota after you move, then you,

1. Put the cross country miles on the vehicle you are getting rid of not the new one and,

2. If anything happens that you need some cash at the new place, you won't be kicking yourself for a largish purchase before you left.
 
I won't spend much money for one,maybe $4000.
I'm kind of picky on what I want,so it probably won't happen.
 
The fallout from the lightning strike continues. Today I found that the nearly brand new digital readout scales for my mill no longer work. The displays power up and will change mode but there is no change when you move the table. Hopefully we've reached the end of our recent bout of failed things.
 
Doug - just wondering out loud here ... do you have surge protectors on any of those devices? or for the house electrical system itself?

Nope. No surge suppressors. With the exception of the digital readouts on the mill, the common factor in the electronic failures was not "power" but cable.
