McMaster's has a very confusing washer section. I just want plain SS washers. How can I tell what that is?

Do you mean McMaster-Carr? If so, you're right... they have a huge selection to sort through.

If you go to their opening page and in the find field key in "flat washer". On the screen that comes up, select "round hole" and from there... the screw size. (The "L" designation on some means they are thinner). Once you get to the next screen you should be able to pick the outside diameter and thickness you want. If you're not concerned about those variables, try several to see what's least expensive. In general you'll find the tighter thickness or diameter is specified (i.e. number greater the number of decimal places), the more the washer is going to cost.

Depends on what you want, Don. If dimensions are unimportant to you and you only want some corrosion protection, then just choose the cheapest ones.

What I would do is start by typing 'washer' into the "Find products" window on the left. Then click on "round hole" in the right pane. Then the screw size you want (eg 1/4") and material stainless steel. Then scroll to the bottom of the page, and look through the selections. P/N 96659A106 (SAE standard washer in 18-8 stainless) at $3.93/50 looks like a good choice (assuming 1/4" is what you want).

IOW, enter the parameters you know (eg, round hole, hole size, stainless steel) and then look through the list of items that match those parameters.

McMaster-Carr gives a gov't employee discount though.

Does "taxpayer" count then?

i doubt it that makes you the gov't employer. although, you can't opt out or fire your employees.

What about the rest of us that don't work in the banking industry?
