Washer "Pump" switch to electric mod.

The wiper/washer switch on my car had a broken hose barb and the pumping diaphram was torn. Time to make it work with an electric washer pump.
I remember seeing somewhere a person put a micro switch inside of the switch body. After a trip to a home store I found this push button switch:

It is a Calterm brand #40184. It has screw post connections for wiring. I thought it looked like it might fit so I got it at a whopping $3 USD.
Here is the switch totally disassembled. The torn diaphram and spring are to be discarded. The white plastic part has the plastic barbs cutoff and a hole has been made to clear the new switch.

If your just adding the washer switch you do not need to take everything apart. Cut away the black plastic that is locking in the white plastic back piece. Then pull the white part, diaphram, and spring out. Now cut the hole in the white part and mount the switch in it like this:

Put a little bit of grease in the wiper part of the switch while you are in there, then push the white part and switch into the black plastic body of the wiper/washer switch. The plunger presses up against the new switch perfectly. The spring inside the switch pushes the knob back. Check out the washer switch function then glue the white part in place.

Wire in a fused power line and an electric in-line or tank mounted washer pump. Just push to wash.

Excellent work, Tim!

That switch looks very similar to the late TR6 wiper / wash switch. Mine is getting hard to turn but I've been reluctant to work on it since it looked like it was sealed up pretty good. You've proved it's possible dismantle and repair!
