WARNING Unsolicited .PDF files

Hackers (Russian) have figured out a very bad exploit of .PDF files. Read about it HERE

If you receive unsolicited emails from ANYONE you don't know and are not sure what the attachment is, then DO NOT open the attachment for ANY reason...period. For this reason also, I am precluding any uploading of .PDF files here in my server unless I actually am the one who created the .PDF file.

I knew there was a reason I don`t much care for adobe, although in some cases it`s a must have.
Leaving valuable info on your P.C. is much akin to leaving your wallet on the dash of your car. Although you lock the doors, if a thief decides he wants the wallet he just breaks a window and poof its gone.
I myself NEVER store important information on my P.C., I deem it ludacrist to do so!
But to each His/Her own.
I use a pre paid C.C. for online transactions, yes it is as vunerable as other types of C.C.`s but with one exception. That is the thief can only steal what ever $ is left on the card at the time of the theft. {Normaly less than $500.00}
{Usually MUCH less}.
I Never open P.D.F.`s that come in my email! If I don`t solicit a P.D.F. from someone or somewhere or create it myself it is JUNK as far as i`m concerned.
In fact if any of my email has attachments that the email itself won`t open and I have to d/l to see ..... immediately to the trash it goes, message and all!
My motto is beware of any attachement ANYONE sends you, although they may well be well intentioned .... you never know what may be lurking inside.

Imagine where we would be as humans if we didn't continually expend time/energy/money to try and undermine one-another.

FYI: Check with your credit card company to see if they offer virtual credit card numbers. Visa's system allows the number to be used only ONCE then it dies. Discover allows the number to be used only at the first vendor that used it, it comes back declined anywhere else. Of the two I like Visa's system: you make your purchase, the card dies, and nobody can steal a cent. Period.
 
That's an interesting concept Scot, I'd not heard of that before. You learn something every day!

I've been using virtual cc's for 2 or 3 years now and am very happy with the approach. In addition to the "one time only" option, I can set my own expiration date (up to 1 year away) and credit limit for a virtual number. That way I can give the number to a vendor for multiple uses but can limit what can be charged. You can "up" the limit whenever you need to. The cc supplier provides an online facility to see what's been charged to each virtual card, and you can kill the the card any time you want. I even use them when giving a cc number over the phone.

This is reminscent of the CT child beating story from this morning. So many people are actually very smart and cabable of doing so much good for this world but scamming it the easy way out.
