who let the Lavotchkin (La-5?) into the line up? Though, I have to admit it's a stunning looking aircraft. I still prefer my Jugs, 'Stangs, Corsairs, and Lightnings ;)

That A-1 Skyraider is beastly! It makes that P-51 look like a ballerina!

+1 - really one of the most remarkable designs. Ed Heinemann at Douglas was a genius when it came to attack aviation: SBD Dauntless, A-20 Havoc, A-26 Invader, A-4 Skyhawk, and his favorite, the A-3 Skywarrior, which, despite its size, came in 32,000 pounds lighter than the Navy specifications and could operate off existing carriers.
 
Really nice photos! I like the group of 38s. My dads friend flew a Jug in Africa! They had electric props and they were very susceptible to moisture. Don't know where they were at, but they had prop problems all the time if they set too long. One tough aircraft though! They could take a lot of hits and still keep going. PJ
