Wanted: Original Bugeye Rear View Mirror

Hi everyone,

I'm 97% there...and have been for a while.

One thing I'm still not happy with is the rear view mirror I have. It's a repro Cobra style. Also, not happy with what Moss or VB is putting out there (someone please correct me if they have correct repros--but I don't think they do).

I'd like to replace with an original piece.

If anyone out there has an original bugeye rear view mirror in Excellent+ condition (I know, I know, it's a long shot), I'd be willing to make it very well worth your while to part with it.

Again, I know it's probably not happening, but I figured I would try.

Thanks

Mustafa

Perhaps I should have started with this:

Can someone confirm for me the original mirror looked like a "cobra style" repro, but was black crinkle finish on the back? Having spoken to some folks-there is wide differences of opinion about even what the original one looked like.

Thanks-

I don't know about the bugeye, but I photographed this original unmolested box
Sprite last year and the mirror on it is definitely chrome backed.

The mirror that was on my bugeye (I believe it was original) had black crinkle paint on the back and was marked "Ever???"

Sadly, I tossed it in the trash bin. Reflecting back, I guess it could have been restored.

Yes, Trevor, that is my belief as well. I met someone at "Cars and Coffee" out here by where live last week (it was British car day), and he mentioned his was original. It had black crinkle on the back, and looked like the Cobra style (with two "arms" holding the top and bottom of the mirror).

Jack, Hap, Tony, others...feel free to add please!

Lucas sold a nice mirror for BEs that has a day/night feature.
It has a chrome back. You push the thing that says "Lucas " and it changes the angle. Headlights sure are blinding when you are this low, especially trucks.

Eversure.

Definitely black crinkle.

The chrome one would have been intended for the big Healey, as you suggest. It will fit the Bugeye, as the pillar part is the same, if you can afford the absurd price this person is obviously expecting.

I gave my spare to the high school kids.

This says its for the big healeys...but perhaps it was also for the BEs, as well?

Sure looks like my mirror. I don't see the bottom tab for
switching to day/night. Did they make these for Lucas?
I guess mine is for a big Healey. As mentioned the base
fits perfectly. That's why I assumed(we all know how THAT works out) it was for a Sprite. Live and learn.

Edit: Looking at mine it has a black back. Notice the
tabs in the above pic. They are black.

Terrific! We've confirmed with enough people that I believe I now am positive what I am looking for.

NOW...does anyone have an extra one laying on their shelves?
