It's OK, Nial. I've done the Miata thing, now for the real thing!

Re: Wanted - "Baby" Elan

That was sweet. Is 53 to old to take up the racin bug again?

Re: Wanted - "Baby" Elan

Ain't that th' truth. But some tonne of cash was spent to get it to where it is, apparently.

I have some reservations about it being a "real" 26R, too. Best bit may be the engine.

The assembly details have me scratchin' me nodge... particular red flag is the pee-poor safety wire job. What ELSE was done by someone with limited info?

It's across the state from me, Don.

Only a bit of the Thompson frame mods evident. But it IS long on looks. :jester:

I don't think this is a genuine 26r, not nearly expensive enough.

Should be a good deal for someone, you would be hard pressed to build that car for the asking price.

I agree that the price isn't indicative a real 26R. Still appears to be a very nice car that I know I've seen before. I'll look through my old Monterey stuff and see if I can find anything on it. Without documentation it's another 26R clone. Nothing wrong with being a clone though if done correctly.

Re: Wanted - "Baby" Elan

I agree. It would be a great thing to flail about!

That car is back in Blighty, undergoing resto at the moment.

Re: Wanted - "Baby" Elan

Between that car and the Microsoft stock I *didn't* buy, there's proof of my idiocy. :madder:

So if I cash in a small percentage of my Microsoft stock, I should consider buying it along with that new transporter I was looking at? I guess I could retire then as well, and hire on anyone here that would like to travel the world and enter Historic races. Oh and please invite your family along as well as I'm sure I can afford to entertain them as well.

Thanks DrEntropy for reminding me of my portfolio that I had forgotten about!

Re: Wanted - "Baby" Elan

Met Bill, actually was more of a How'd ya do in passing in 82 or 83 while doing work in the first Microsoft Campus. Who'd have thunk it

I'll interpret that as a tease, friend.

There's exactly two here, qualified and experienced:

"No phone, no food, no pets..."

Original motor? Dellortos certainly are not on this series, but a nice upgrade for sure. I got em on mine.

It's a RHD car, maybe UK spec? I know they put Dellortos on Plus 2s and some Euro-spec Europa TCs.

Re: Wanted - "Baby" Elan

Esprit as well.

Re: Wanted - "Baby" Elan

Webers were original on S3's, followed by Strombergs around the time of the SS. Dellorto use began on S4's and Sprints in the UK.

My RHD S3 was Weber equipped from the factory, and I believe the good Dr's S3 is as well.

Re: Wanted - "Baby" Elan

Yup. The De'llortos were European equipment with the S4's. Strommies wound up here on N.A. shores.

Manifolds for the Esprit/Eclat are kinda rare. The "siamesed port" 1600 heads are an anomoly, IMO.

...BTW, I HAVE one of those "one-into-two" heads here. Great doorstop!!! :jester:
