In .380 it will frustrate Doc but mebbe not you and definitely not me. I can assure you mine is much "worse" but still manageable for me and I prefer to feel like I just shot "something". You may not like Docs shoes or mine, you gotta find your own. Find a range that rents and see for yourself.
 
I do have to input that Bond did NOT like the Walther. His choice was indeed the Beretta .25. In Dr. No he even tries to sneak the little Beretta out under the
box the Walther came in. They made him return it to the desk.
I have a little Beretta Jetfire .25 that I just love.
So light and compact. Great conceal carry. I know it doesn't have knock down power, but I figure if I'm using it the target is about in my face.
It has the neat feature of a break down barrel for misfires and by putting the round in the barrel all that is needed is to pull the hammer back and fire for the first round.
This can be done even as it's coming from your pocket.
I can see why Bond loved this little "ladies gun".

Bond also used a .38 S&W centennial airweight (for long range work) in Dr. No after giving up the Beretta.
 
The best advice if you have a .25 is, "Always carry it but never load it. If you shoot someone with it you're just gonna whiz (edited) him off."
 
Way late to this discussion, but wife has a Walther PK380 with laser. Really nice lightweight with not a lot of recoil. My carry is a Kahr CM40. Very small for the caliber; it rides really nice in the cargo pocket of my pants. A fair amount of recoil, but managable. You only get 6+1 rounds with it, but I figure shooting the stouter S&W 40 round I hopefully wouldn't need more than that.
 
Buddy has a Kahr CM40, love the feel, not crazy about the construction. I found it pleasant to shoot, they just seem hit-and-miss (no pun intended) on quality. If you have a good one it's great, and if not....it will never be.

All down to placement, IMHO. I wouldn't want to be hit with ANY caliber. My justification for the .380 is down to consistency: ALL rounds fit ALL mags, ALL mags fit ALL weapons. No change in the manual-of-arms to fret over as we fumble in the dark... Practice, train and become proficient with what you have.

In my case the .380 PPK/S came along soon after I left the military, around 1976 or '77. Mitsy came shortly after. She wanted nothing to do with it, never expressed interest. That blued "Iron Lady" was my house and carry weapon for years, much the worse for wear now. A few years ago I came across a stainless example and the stars were in proper alignment for me to be able to acquire it. Apparently that spurred some awareness in Mitsy. I enrolled her in the NRA "Women on Target" program, she went through that and got to fire a .22 wheel-gun, then a semi-auto .22... she grouped a dozen rounds into her semi-auto target that the instructor held up for the rest in the course to see as: "what a grouping is supposed to look like." The instructor later told me with a wink: "She's DEADLY!" She was hooked. She got her CWL and I found her a stainless Interarms PPK/S .380. Now my range fees and ammo expenses have doubled. And I've my very own Fiona Glennan. :smirk:

Pleased to learn there are others here who take the responsibility for their own safety and security and that of their family seriously. :thumbsup:
 
Many years ago, back in the dark ages, I was on the Gitmo Naval base pistol team. I had a military issue, accurized Colt 45. We had to use military issue, but were allowed to have them accurized and what a difference it made! I shot a consistent 285 to 295 out of a possible 300. One time at a meet, I shot 297, best I ever did. Needless to say, the old slab sided 45 was my weapon of choice. I can't believe the price they want for one today, amazing! PJ

Oh, one thing I forgot to add was, the cartridges cost 12 cents each back then! :highly_amused:

My 9 mm PPS arrived yesterday morning after 2 months on order. It's considerably smaller and lighter than my XD 40 but easier to conceal when necessary. It's short on capacity but it's an extremely well-thought-out design. I am anxious to test it.
 
Speaking of the XDS, I was Christmas shopping at the Base Exchange yesterday night and inquired when they would start selling "post recall" XDSs again. The lady working the counter told me they had just received a shipment of five of them and they sold out in one day.

Out right now too but $469 shipped. Bought my 10/22 takedown from them and they are great. I think I got my XDM from them too, who knows... You'll have to pay for FFL but will save on tax. The BX doesn't charge you tax though, right?

Speaking of caliber... There was a scene in "Lightning Jack" where Lightning Jack was demonstrating the "stopping power" of different calibers by shooting a board. I'll have to find it.

A) 'cause they didn't make an Ulm-proofed W. German one in stainless.

B) C'mon down to th' hovel an' walk right in... that'd be a short demonstration (see previously posted target pic). :smirk:
