For me, pocket carry is out. The PPK/S Walthers are too big/heavy for that, IMO. But I see the point. A .32 PPK may be more suited to that.

And caliber is a non-issue here as well... I hit what I aim at. If there's a 'threat' further out than 7~10 yards, I'm running away! That kind of engagement would warrant an M-4 anyhow. :wink:

The only "other" PP-series Walther I'd consider is a Manhurin made one. They came from the same factory (in France) that made the "W. Germany" ones.

The Hungarian variants just don't "feel" the same.
 
I don't care too much about pocket carry, though I do carry my .357 Smith in my pocket (which it easily does it is the 640 model 5 rnd/hamerless). I do prefer an all steel gun, in fact I appreciate the extra heft when aiming and firing.
Now as for holsters, I do own quite a few for the 1911 I have the original U.S. Army flap holster from the first world war, a world war two shoulder holster, a pancake holster (for the rare occasions it is conceal carried), a bianchi bikini holster, and a rather nice hand made hand tooled holster a guy made fro my dad some 40 years ago. I also have a sam brown rig for my old .38 special, a shoulder holster for a snub nosed .38, and a cowboy looking reproduction for my black powder pistol.
 
Hard to go wrong with a PPK. I'd love to find one in .32 ACP but they are always a little pricey for what I can do right now. In 380 there will be a little more recoil than you might like. Although it is all steel, it is still a blowback action which gives a pretty sharp jolt. My carry piece is a Taurus M327. Love the power that baby throws out and we can drop all the way down to .32 short for the wife to play with.

I've seen a few .32 stainless PPK's on line, pricing is a bit silly, though. I'll keep trollin' cases locally, one will turn up. With a blow-back the muzzle rise and recoil of the .380 IS a serious consideration with the PPK frame. Much better control with the extra length of the PPK/S frame.

We had a bit of a 'learning curve' here with Mitsy's PPK/S... she was experiencing a lot of FtFeed issues, I got her a set of wood coco-bolo grips and got her to concentrate on keeping sight picture through the first trigger pull and recoil, to be on target for the next round. The checkered grips are a bit "fatter" than stock ones and afforded her more surface area to get ahold of. Now she can run through four mag's worth, less than a second apart and have NO issue:

Yup. All else is the same. One more round than the PPK in .380.
 
Now all PPK and PPK/S are made by S&W since 2002 right? So I should be looking for a PPK from before 02.
 
Now to throw a big monkey wrench into my own works, does anyone have any experience with Sig Sauer's P230?
 
I've a pal who has one (232, 9mm actually), he swears by it. I haven't had the opp to fire it yet, tho.

Yeah. The S&W version has an extended beavertail to help stop the tendency for slide bite... and it makes the weapon look funky IMHO. I have never been sliced by any of my Interarms examples, my hands ain't small, either. If you're aware of the possibility it shouldn't be a problem. YMMV.

They (S&W) fettled around with the interior design of the safety/decocker and hammer block, ended up recalling a LOT of the things. Walther is now back in the US, in Fort Smith, AR. But the manufacture of the guns won't move from Maine until later next year. Roll mark now says "Fort Smith, Arkansas" though. All pre-S&W stainless ones were made in the US by Ranger.

If you are looking for the .380 as CC weapon, I would say PPK/S in stainless. The PPK will frustrate you unless it's a .32.

I looked at a 230 at a local pawn shop the other day, seemed to be well made. When I first glanced it in the case I even mistook it for a Walther until I got a look at it.

...I know the "Bird in the Hand" thing. But ya really should fondle a Walther before you jump.

Edit: the only exception (at least here, I don't know about elsewhere) is if you have a CC permit, in which case a check isn't done as permit holders have already undergone an even more stringent background check than required for just a purchase. I say all of this only as there is a LOT of harum-scarum bad info floating around.
 
Down here, even with the CW License there is a background check with the national (FBI) database to insure no recent issues would preclude purchase. Takes about ten minutes and they CHARGE you $5 for it.
 
Around here they do the background check. It takes about 15 minutes and they give you a cup of coffee while you wait.
 
In OK you still have to go through the background check but there is no charge for it. I thought that was a federal law.

As far as I know it is but the CC permit covers that because if what you have to go through to get it. Maybe it's up to the state to handle the requirement of the law, I dunno. Isn't it a federal law to have a driver license? I think the thought may be, A. they already know you have one AND are licensed to CC it; denying you this one isn't going to make a difference. B. They know who you are, where you live and have your fingerprints. I was surprised to hear it too but that's how they do it here.
