Over the weekend we were heading eastbound on the 91 fwy near the Prado dam. As we approached the hwy 71 offramp, we were passed by a station wagon heading to the offramp.

It had a Swiss licence plate and at first I thought it was a Saab or Volvo. But it had Spyker Badging. I only knew about Spyker's weirdo high end sports cars.

I had to look it up. Turns out I was right about the Saab part, although it was actually and Opel.

When GM bought Saab and proceeded to gut Saab's product development, they badge engineered vehicles from around the GM family. So the last rounds of Saab's wagons were built on Opel platforms.

As GM's death spiral dragged Saab down the hole with it, Spyker stepped in and bought into Saab's vehicle production.

Of course, that was right before the whole thing imploded completely. Saab and the Spyker rescue attempt evaporated and the brand was sold off to China.
