I remember it. Came out about th' same time as "Blowup"...

I was footloose about then. :devilgrin:
 
Anyone notice something strange about the first three gear changes by the first Mercedes?
 
Something tells me the editing makes it look like he shifts into third several times before he hits fourth.

And I'm pretty sure he's driving a Hydrak (automatic clutch) transmission on that cabriolet. He shifts exactly like I do in my 220S. You start out in second, not first, unless you're in heavy traffic or going up a hill. The "Hydrak" was the M-B intermediate step toward automatic transmission in the smaller engine cars.

Come to think of it ... I'm trying to think of the last time I saw *anyone* actually shift gears with a steering column shift.
