Hello all, there is a Midget on Ebay that is listed as having a VW motor. I was just wondering what eng that would be.

I'm guessing (since there was no real information) it may just be a 1275 A-series.

Yes that silver one. I don't think it's to far away from me. I might just have to go see it to belive it, I have never heard of a VW eng. in a midget I was just curouios if anyone has heard of that before.

Prolly a water-cooled Rabbit or Golf 1800. I wonder why no pix? I sent seller a question about pix and what trans was used.

I have wondered how a 1600 NA diesel would work in a Midget. Kinda heavy, but I bet the mileage would be in the mid 40s.

Maybe its a 1600 air cooled mounted in the trunk!?!?

HA!!

OK, I gt this in reply:
"Same factory motor /trans just rebuilt. No photos. Did not own car at time ."

Um, WTF?

This guy does not know what he is selling, or what he is selling does not really exist, if ya know what I mean. Buyer beware.

Definite scam. What they hope to accomplish by it I don't know. I got sucked up into one once, I suspected from the beginning but chased it down anyway, as far as I could.

Also noticed that altho' he said he "didn't put the bumpers on after repaint," the rear mount holes are obviously filled and the decklid shaved. Sooo...he couldn't put them on. It all adds up to suspiciousness.

Good catch.

I decided to report it. it might be legit, but Ebay will figure it out.

Let's see...a VW power plant in an MG. That makes sense. Both vehicles have a reputation for reliability and cutting edgte technology. Hmmm? Maybe a Yugo and Neon for affordability and availability of parts?

VW engine in a Midget?

Why not? Because there's also on eBay right now a Midget with a "900cc" engine.

Very confused sellers, methinks . . .

Could it be one with an early 948 engine?

It could be four German squirrels in a cage. The seller ain't sayin' and he ain't giving up any pix. I say the car and the seller have no real connection.

When that ad was first posted on eBay, I asked the seller what type of VW engine? No response from him yet, nor is it shown on eBay that I asked the seller a question.

Me too Rik but I just noticed that it says the seller is registered on another ebay site?

No doubt it's a scam. 0 feedback, doesn't know the car, won't give straight answers. My question is why. Just to get someone's deposit? Doesn't even ask for one. Long way to go to get email addresses. I can't imagine anyone biting at that bait. In my old Opel GT circle we'd sniff 'em out in a hurry because that was a smaller world, most often someone would recognize the car or the pictures or both.
