Having enjoyed ownership (back in the day) of both a 71 Bus and then an '83 Vanagon, I think I'd be happy with one of these.
 
Amazing. Though IIRC they used to sell a tent that attached, which might be cheaper.

That is really sharp! Would be great for going to show events. My nephew restores VWs and has a restored "Samba Bus"? I think that's the name of it. Been offered a fortune for it but won't sell. I think the roof opens up also. Looks like this;
